Description
Chakalaka is hot stuff! Chakalaka is a spicy South African vegetable dish, made of tomatoes, chili, onions and sometimes beans. It was probably born in the townships of Johannesburg or on the gold mines surrounding Johannesburg, as a staple of Mozambican mine workers, whose cooking has a strong Portuguese influence. It has become part of South African traditional fare, and it is served with bread, pap (corn porridge like polenta), samp (corn rice), stews or curries and is often a staple with a braai (BBQ). Just the thing to keep you warm.
