Description
Inkwenkwezi means star in Xhosa. This quilt celebrates Three Cats shweshwe in the trio of calico colours: indigo, chocolate and red.
In the 19th century discharge printed indigo printed cottons were introduced to Southern Africa from Europe and in the 20th century the chocolate and red prints were added to the collection. In the 21st century the heritage of this beloved cotton print is still honoured by Da Gama Textiles in South Africa, who continue to produce these classics alongside contemporary designs.
